Welcome to our Raising Baby Bunnies Page Part II
In the fall of 2006 we decided that our two female bunnies would love to have the company of a male friend for a day. So we borrowed a male lopeared bunny from the same farm we borrowed the male from last time. He was lovely! Soft and cute. Almost identicle in color and markings as Billie our female. Only her ears are not floppy. It tooks some doing but we were finally able to catch our females and one at a time we put them in the hutch with Mr. Bugglie. They hit it off right away. Mr. Bugglie lives in a small hutch all alone on his farm, so he didn't know what was going on. He needed some direction to find the right end of the females to do his bunny business but once he found it, there was no stopping him! |

October 21, 2006 Mr. Bugglie and Billie mate in the hutch the following day. They look alot alike. His ears lop down and hers are more upright. I wonder what their babies will look like? |

November 21, 2006 We felt like we were waiting forever, we separated the mother bunnies after Harken gave birth first. One month later from the mating period. |

November 21, 2006
Harken gives birth to 4 babies!
2 pink babies and 2 grey babies
Harken did not pull out alot of fur so we worried her babies would survive the cold November nights.
We decided to bring her whole hutch indoors and monitor the babies from our finished basement.
The next day Billie gave birth to two babies in her hutch! She had lots of hair, but we thought we could add them together since they had only been born one day apart and the Mommas were used to living together. When we tried, Harken was too dominate so we had to take Billie and her babies out. |
Billies babies warm at the bottom of her nest. But there were only two to keep each other warm.
November 22, 2006 We decide to bring her babies inside as well.
We try to put all the babies together in the one hutch with the two moms.
This is Billies pink baby. She had one pink, one grey. The pinks will turn white once their fur grows in.
The two momma don't want to share the nest now that the babies were born separate, unlike last time.
Harken checks out Billies fur with the new nest we made for all the babies but decides "No way!" She chases Billie around the cage.
We tried this out for a few minutes and then decided it was too dangerous and gave Billie and her babies their own cage.

Our sister and her son come for Thanksgiving and Sasha Rae shows them the baby Bunnies.

This is one of Harken's babies, just one day old.

Justin shows Willy, Billies 2 babies. Willy's bunny Mr. Wiggles suddenly died one day in his cage. Willy was very sad. They think a dog might have frightened him to death. Even in an expensive rabbit cage his bunny died. Each pet owner must decide what type of home and life exsistence they wish for their pets to have.

November 27, 2006 5 days later the babies grow fat!
But they still fit in the palm of your hands.
The white ones now have clear markings. This is one of Harken's babies. And the babies don't mind being all together.
This is my favorite one. It's all white except a bit of grey on the tips of it's ears. It's Billies baby.
Novmber 30, 2006 10 days old they can crawl around but they are still blind and deaf.
We put a green string on Billies baby so we don't mix it up with the other 2 grey ones when we put them all together.

All six babies.

Even though Billie's babies are thinner & younger, they are more advanced. 10 days old for Billies Babies, 11 days for Harkens.
Some of their eyes are starting to open and they try to hop.

Jessie comes over to check them out.

December 8, 2006 All the baby bunnies can run and hop and eat food now.

THE BABIES ARE AROUND 18 DAYS OLD
Little Bloomy our ferret comes out to meet the baby bunnies.
The bunnies were scared of Little Bloomy, they felt she was a predator.

December 20, 2006 The baby bunnies are now 1 month old, or 29 days.
We move Harken and her babies in their hutch outside. We prepared the hutch with plastic for the cold months ahead.
These are Billie's 2 babies. They are moved outside to their hutch where they were first born.
Billie is a good Momma, she keeps her babies warm and clean.
This white one is my favorite. Jessie our Beagle, likes her too! I still haven't thought of a name for it.
It's only 5 days until Christmas.
Grammy likes this one too! It's so cute.
12-27-06 It's now 7 days later. We gave 2 of Harken's babies to our friend Brenda for her children's xmas present surrpise, they loved them! We always find good homes for our baby bunnies. We decide to put the remaining 4 babies together with their mommas now.
But mean old Harken had to chase Billie around first and claim dominance over her. Then they were all fine.
A few days later, the 2 Momma bunnies escaped from this play pen and hopped around in the yard.
The babies couldn't escape though, we keep them in the hutch at night and let them out to play during the day.
Here's my little cutie again!

January 26, 2007 It's been about a month that the baby bunnies have lived outside on their own. Both of the momma bunnies are still healthy and happy. They come by every day for food and water and the babies run over to the fence where they are on the other side. The momma bunnies live under the red shed right next to the babies pen. |
January 26, 2007
One month later the bunnies are doing fine. This is the coldest day of the winter so far. The babies are now alittle more than 2 months old.
The babies all run to the water when we put it out, but it freezes too fast today.
I decided to bring the babies in, it's just too cold out, at a wind chill of -15 degrees. The Honey Dog, checks out the babies.
When the Honey Dog is outside, she jumps in the pen with the babies. She doesn't hurt them. Honey is a Visla, which is a Hungarian Hunting dog.
I think she is just really curious. She does this to all my animals.
The babies are almost as big as their Mommas now.
